This message is for Comp and Devo team families:
We had our first parent meeting in Aspen on Wednesday, November 5th and it was great to see so many faces there.
The first Spring Gulch parent meeting is Monday, November 10th at 5PM (after practice) at Roaring Fork High School in the library.
If you were unable to attend either meeting, it is very important that you go over the material that we covered there. I have put all parent meeting content on the handouts tab of this blog. If you have any questions, let your program coaches know and see if you can set up a time to go over the parent meeting content after a practice this week.
The parent handbook is new this year. We spent a lot of time on it this summer and fall and I hope you find it helpful. It contains info on our program structure and philosophy, blog familiarization, travel guidelines and how to RSVP, how travel billing works, AVSC parent volunteer/work deposit hours, sports parenting, gear tips, staff contact info and more. It is a lot of info for a new family, but should be an invaluable reference to you this year. If you didn’t get a printed copy at the parent meeting, print one out and keep it handy.
There are 3 factors involved in the development of a young athlete. I have listed them below and you will see that parents are 1/3 of this equation. We need your help to make you child the best person and athlete he/she can be.
Athlete Development Factors:
1. Parents (genetics, support, resources)
2. Athletes (grit, determination, attitude, effort)
3. Environment (coaches, facilities, support)
Get involved in the Nordic community this year. Meet other parents, come to our events, learn your child’s teammates names, take the time to show a new parent the ropes or introduce yourself to a veteran Nordic parent. Embrace the Nordic culture!
